About 350 people, mostly women of all ages, gathered today in downtown Santa Rosa to dance in solidarity with others around the world protesting violence against women and girls.

Participants in the event, dubbed One Billion Rising, gathered at Courthouse Square and walked over to Santa Rosa Plaza, where they staged a flash mob dance near the hand sculpture outside the mall.

The dancers, many clad in red and black, were cheered by the crowd. Several motorists honked or cheered in apparent solidarity as they drove by.
