The 49ers hold the rights to the No. 31 pick in the 2013 NFL draft, which will take April 25-27. As the scouting combine continues in Indianapolis, here is a list of 10 potential players the 49ers might target with their first-round pick:
Zach Ertz, TE, Stanford: Delanie Walker is a free agent, coach Jim Harbaugh loves tight ends and coached Ertz in college. Vernon Davis remains the primary receiving tight end, but Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Greg Roman can't ever have enough tight ends. Ertz is on the 49ers radar, even if it means trading up.
DeMarcus Milliner, CB, Alabama: Regarded as the top cornerback in the draft. He is talented enough to excel in man-to-man coverage. The 49ers discovered during their postseason run that they need more help at cornerback, even if it means packaging several picks to move up and get a player of Milliner's caliber.
Desmond Trufant, CB, Washington: His stock soared after a superb showing at the Senior Bowl in Mobile in January. Like Milliner, Trufant is regarded as an all-around cornerback that has the ability to step in right away and make a significant contribution.
Robert Woods, WR, USC: He is a polished receiver that likely won't need much time to adapt to the NFL. His stock slipped as a result of an injury-plagued 2012 season. Still, he is the kind of receiver that can step in and help out from the outset. His production was eye-opening at times in college.
Keenan Allen, WR, Cal: His production from 2011 to 2012 dropped quite a bit. However, he still is viewed as the top receiver prospect in this year's draft class. His size — 6-foot-2 and 215 pounds — speed and hands make him a prized target.
Cordarelle Patterson, WR, Tennessee: He is a raw player that piqued the interest of NFL teams with a breakout season in 2012. He figures to be available at the end of the first round, which places him in the crosshairs of the 49ers.
Xavier Rhodes, CB, Florida State: Rhodes, 6-2 and 215, has impressive size and strength for a cornerback. That is something the 49ers will take into account, playing in a division that features WR Larry Fitzgerald.
