A suspected electrical fire caused serious damage to an unoccupied home in Guerneville Tuesday morning.
Firefighters from the Russian River Fire Protection District arrived at the single family home on the 1500 block of Old River Road shortly after the fire was reported at 4:45 a.m.
Fire Cpt. Rob Cassady said that when crews arrived the fire was just starting to extend from the basement into the main living area of the roughly 1,000-square foot home.
He said the fire was beginning to move up a wall and into the attic space. Firefighters quickly began pulling exterior siding and indoor sheet rock to gain access up into the attic. A vent hole in the roof was also cut.
“Once we did that all the heat and smoke went out the vent hole allowing us to quickly suppress the fire,” Cassady said.
The fire was contained after about 2 hours. He said the exact address of the residence is still being determined since no number was posted at the house.
Firefighters from Monte Rio and Forestville assisted in battling the blaze.
