A young Petaluma man who ran into a utility pole and fled the crash was taken in custody, suspected of drunken driving and hit and run, reported Petaluma police Monday.
The car struck the pole at I Street and Sunnyslope Avenue at about 12:50 a.m. Monday, reported Lt. Tim Lyons.
Officers called to the scene found the damaged pole and car but no driver.
He was a few blocks away, near his home, when officers located him, Lyons said.
Clint E. Moheng, 22, appeared to be drunk and was arrested.
Moheng was one of seven suspected drunken drivers arrested during the weekend by Petaluma police.
That brought the total this year so far to 55, compared to 48 suspected drunken drivers last year by March 3.
Lyons said there have been five hit-and-run cases involving suspected drunken drivers.
