Humboldt County apartment fire injures occupant

<p>A structure fire at an apartment complex in Fortuna left one resident injured and an apartment completely destroyed, responders said.</p><p>The injured dweller was taken to Redwood Memorial Hospital in Fortuna, said Sgt. Jason Kadle of the Fortuna Police Dept.</p><p>Two or three other apartments in the complex at 311 9th St. were damaged by smoke and heat, said Jim Senestraro, engineer with Company 5 of Fortuna Volunteer Fire Department. </p><p>“It appeared to be a total loss to the one apartment,” Senestraro said. “It was thoroughly gutted by fire, totally uninhabitable.”</p><p>The call came in around 8:50 a.m., and the fire was contained within 15 minutes of the firefighters' arrival, Senestraro said.</p><p>— Cathy Bussewitz</p>
