A vacant home on the Mendocino coast burned Saturday evening but a nearby building was saved, Albion Fire Chief Ted Williams reported Sunday.
A neighbor reported the Albion Ridge home was on fire at about 6 p.m. Twenty Albion volunteer firefighters responded. They found the house fully engulfed in flames and threatening a nearby structure, Williams said.
The volunteers used a pond on the property for water and pumped a possible record amount onto the fire, said Williams, estimating they used about 126,000 gallons.
The unoccupied home belonged to out-of-county owners.
