Lake County sheriff may face no-confidence vote

Two Lake County supervisors have requested the Board of Supervisors issue a vote of no-confidence in Sheriff Frank Rivero at the board's next meeting Tuesday.

Supervisors Rob Brown and Anthony Farrington put forward the motion, after a four-year history of disagreements with the sheriff.

"The job that he does requires honesty, and there seems to be an issue with that," Brown said. "As elected officials and leaders, we're held to a higher standard." In a memo addressed to the board, Brown and Farrington accused Rivero of fraud, dishonesty, incompetence and neglect of duty.

Lake County District Attorney Don Anderson recently added Rivero to the list of Brady officers, a term stemming from the U.S. Supreme Court's 1963 Brady vs. Maryland decision stating the defense must be told when an officer has a history of making false statements.

Rivero, who is challenging Anderson's ruling, sharply denied Brown and Farrington's accusations.

"My actions were proper, justified and within department policy," he said. "They want me to resign, but now I'm going to gear up and run for a second term."
