LOS GATOS — A Santa Clara County forensics expert accused of sexually abusing a child over several years has been charged with 18 counts of child molestation.
The San Jose Mercury News (http://bit.ly/XfPHnX) reports the arrest of 44-year-old Steven Joyner of Los Gatos is forcing the district attorney's office to retest samples in 26 criminal cases he handled.
The forensic toxicologist was arrested in February after officials at the alleged victim's school contacted police. He's accused of committing lewd and lascivious acts on the same child over a decade.
Joyner's attorney says his client has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Prosecutors say Joyner's work testing blood samples for drugs and alcohol needs to be redone because he can no longer testify in court about the results.
The state attorney general's office is prosecuting Joyner's case.
