Stanford will square off against Stephen F. Austin in the opening round of the National Invitation Tournament.

Stanford (18-14, 9-9 Pac-12) will attempt to capture its second straight postseason NIT title after defeating Minnesota 75-51 in last year's championship game. The only other programs to claim back-to-back championships are St. John's (1943, 1944) and South Carolina (2005, 2006).

Stanford, tabbed as a No. 4 seed in its region, will host the Lumberjacks (27-4, 16-2 Southland) in a first-round contest Tuesday at Maples Pavilion. The game is scheduled to tip off at 8 p.m. and will be televised nationally on ESPN2.

The 32-team NIT field includes two other Pac-12 teams in No. 3 seed Arizona State and No. 6 seed Washington. The first three rounds are played at campus sites, with the semifinals and championship game played at Madison Square Garden in New York on April 2-4.

The Cardinal tied for sixth in the Pac-12.
