Fort Bragg police found a stash of firearms, including illegal assault weapons, in a felon's car and have linked some of the weapons to those taken during an earlier burglary.

Police stopped Leonard Bean, 51, of Penngrove at about 11:20 p.m. Friday on suspicion of speeding down South Main Street in a silver BMW, Fort Bragg Police Lt. John Naulty said.

Beam, a convicted felon, is prohibited from owning or possessing firearms and ammunition, he said.

Police linked some of the weapons to those reported stolen from lockers at a North Main Street storage facility, Naulty said. The facility was burglarized Thursday. Tools, firearms and other items were taken.

Bean was arrested on suspicion of several weapons violations including being a felon in possession of a firearm and banned weapons, as well as possessing stolen property, Naulty said. Bean was booked into the Mendocino County Jail in Ukiah Saturday and released on $25,000 bail.
