REDDING — A Shasta County sheriff's deputy has shot and wounded a man with mental health issues after he tried to stab the officer with a knife.
The Record Searchlight (bit.ly/XSERYR) reports the man was taken to a local hospital with two non-life threatening gunshot wounds.
The incident unfolded around 7 p.m. Saturday when two deputies received a report of a family disturbance.
When deputies arrived, they encountered an uncooperative man armed with a knife. Police say a deputy shot the man with a stun gun, but it was ineffective.
Police say the man lunged at a deputy in an attempt to stab him and the deputy shot him, police said.
The officer-involved shooting is being investigated by the Redding Police Department.
