The California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance and PG&E will hold a workshop in Mendocino County on energy efficiency in vineyards and wineries.
The workshop will cover electricity and gas tools that help increase energy efficiency and save money; variable frequency drives (VFDs) for the vineyard and winery; and a comprehensive overview of PG&E's services and resources for vineyard and winery customers.

Seminar on wine market trends
Sonoma County Winegrowers is sponsoring a workshop for grape growers and wineries on "2013 Harvest: Grape and Bulk Wine Market Update and Trends." The workshop will be held from 4-6 p.m. Aug. 15 at the Hilton, 3555 Round Barn Blvd., Santa Rosa. Check-in begins at 3:45 p.m.
Glenn Proctor of Ciatti Company will speak and answer questions on current market trends regarding the demand for bulk wine and grapes; bulk wine inventory update; and current crop size estimates and crop quality after the growing season's rain and intense heat events. He'll also discuss the current situation with custom crush and winery processing capacity.

Sustainability Award of the Year
The California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance was recognized with the Sustainability Award of the Year by The Drinks Business, an industry trade publication based in Europe.
The publication's judges lauded CSWA in the generic organization category for achievements in gaining broad program participation by the state's wineries and vineyards.
They also recognized CSWA's "constant process of review and improvement, as well as the transparency of its reporting," the Alliance said.
