An 85-foot fishing boat that became stranded off the Mendocino County coast was towed into Bodega Bay on Friday night, a Coast Guard spokesman said.

The Emerald Sea, a San Francisco-based fishing trawler, was stranded about seven miles off Gualala sometime Thursday night, Petty Officer Ross Ellis said.

Coast Guard ships from Bodega Bay and San Francisco responded, towing the vessel more than 30 miles in a nearly 24-hour rescue operation, he said.

It was greeted at Spud Point Marina by dozens of curious onlookers who snapped pictures, Ellis said.

The boat had been headed to Oregon for repairs when it suffered a fuel problem, he said.
