Century-old house in St. Helena damaged by fire

Flames ripped through the second story of a century-old home in St. Helena on Saturday afternoon, causing major damage to the upstairs.

The owner of the home had been performing some kind of construction project when the fire broke out on Allyn Avenue around 3 p.m., said CalFire Battalion Chief John Lovie.

The homeowner received burns on his hands and feet trying to put out the blaze. Firefighters entered the home and doused the flames in short order, but the damage was done.

About 800-square-feet of living space was damaged in the blaze, Lovie said.
