A 20-year-old Ukiah man died Saturday morning after losing control of his pickup on Potter Valley Road, police said.
The man, whose name was not released, was driving an orange 1981 Toyota pickup south on Potter Valley Road south of West Road around 8:45 a.m., said California Highway Patrol Officer Steve Krul.
“It drifted off of the west road edge and lost control, and then continued back over the roadway, and slid over both lanes of traffic, and then it rolled down an embankment,” Krul said.
The truck rolled downhill about 100 feet, causing the cab to be detached from the frame of the pickup, Krul said. The driver was partly ejected from the cab and died at the scene.
The northbound lane of Potter Valley Road was closed for about two and a half hours, he said.
The cause of the crash on the curvy, two-lane roadway is under investigation, Krul said.
The passenger in the vehicle, Glenn McKinley, 21, was able to get out of the crumpled cab and wave down a passing motorist. He suffered minor injuries, according to the incident report.
