Rohnert Park police have released an artist's rendering of a man being sought in the Friday afternoon assault of a housekeeper at The Doubletree Hotel.
The man reportedly grabbed the victim from behind as she was cleaning the patio outside a first-floor room, the Rohnert Park Public Safety Department said. He put a knife to her throat and forced her back inside the guest room, where he tied her up, authorities said.
The man began to sexually assault her, but she managed to fight him off and start screaming, scaring him away and attracting help, police said.
She later told investigators she had seen the man walking toward the hotel from the Rogers Plaza shopping center south of the Doubletree. He appeared to head back that direction after she screamed, but a search of the area failed to produce him, authorities said.
The suspect was described as a thin, African-American man between 30 and 40 years old and standing about 5-foot-10-inches.
He has writing tattooed on the side of his neck.
He was wearing a white button-down shirt, black dress pants and black gloves.
Anyone with information is asked to call public safety Detective Tara Douglas at (707) 588-3526.
