Parked on the side of a Willits road, a Mendocino County sheriff's deputy could smell marijuana smoke as a pickup driver pulled up to the stop sign.
The deputy spotted two vehicle violations on the red Toyota pickup. The truck bed was full, with an uncovered load and it was missing a license plate, a Mendocino County sheriff's official said.
The deputy pulled over driver Desmond Ray Spiker, 30, of Willits at 3:40 p.m. Saturday.
Spiker admitted to smoking marijuana as he was driving and he told the deputy he had drug paraphernalia under his seat, according to the Sheriff's Office.
A search of the pickup turned up a plastic baggie holding about gram of crystal methamphetamine.
Spiker was arrested on suspicion of possessing the drugs. He was booked into the Mendocino County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.
