Injured woman hikes all night for help after Ukiah car wreck

A Laytonville woman thrown from a pickup during a crash in a remote area west of Ukiah walked through the night to get help for herself and the injured driver, the CHP said Monday.

The crash occurred at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday on Running Springs Road east of Orr Springs Road when the driver, Carlos Sandoval, lost control of a pickup truck. The 2002 Toyota Tundra rolled about 300 feet down a steep embankment.

Dakota Sanderson, 23, suffered a broken left arm in the crash. She reached a home at about 6 a.m. Sunday and reported the accident.

Officers found Sandoval at the truck, suffering from a broken leg. The 26-year-old Ukiah resident was flown to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital and arrested on suspicion of drunken driving.

He remained hospitalized Monday in fair condition, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Sanderson was taken to Ukiah Valley Medical Center.
