Teen driver, wanted passenger arrested in Sebastopol DUI stop

A drunken teen driver and a drunken teen passenger Sunday evening were arrested in Sebastopol — the passenger was wanted on 13 arrest warrants, according to Sebastopol police.

The Santa Rosa teens, both 17, were stopped at about 5:30 p.m. while driving near downtown.

Officers began looking for their car after they’d gotten a report of a reckless driver headed east on Bodega Avenue near Pleasant Hill Road. The caller said the driver was speeding and illegally passing other cars, said Acting Sergeant Nick Belliveau.

Officers stopped the car on North Main Street near Keating Avenue.

A teen girl was behind the wheel. She failed sobriety tests and was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, Belliveau said in a release.

The passenger appeared to be too drunk to care for himself and officers arrested him on suspicion of public drunkenness.

They were taken to the nearby police department, where officers learned the passenger had given them a false name, Belliveau said.

His real name showed he was wanted on the numerous warrants and that he’d recently escaped from the county’s juvenile detention center.

Officers cited the girl and released her to a guardian.

The boy was taken back to Juvenile Hall.
