A missing 19-year-old woman was found and a wanted felon considered “armed and dangerous” was taken into custody without incident Saturday after a Sonoma County Sheriff's Office SWAT team and an armored vehicle swarmed around a Forestville-area home, officials said.
About 50 law enforcement officers responded to the scene, with firefighters and an ambulance standing by, as hostage negotiators ultimately got the wanted man and the property owner to come out of the house in the 9400 block of Westside Road south of Old River Road, Sheriff's Lt. Tim Duke said.
The two men were arrested, and the woman was found apparently unharmed inside the house. Investigators were conducting interviews Saturday afternoon to determine whether the woman was at the house by choice, he said.
Detectives worked all night and into the morning to track down the woman, who lives in an unincorporated area north of Santa Rosa and was reported missing Friday, Duke said.
She was last seen Tuesday in Fremont with the felon, William John Tweedie, 32, of Sonoma County, Duke said.
Detectives worked all night Friday and into Saturday morning to locate the woman, even “pinging” her cellphone with no results.
Turning their attention to Tweedie, investigators pinpointed the Westside Road home owned by Steven Gary Hill, 51, an associate of Tweedie, Duke said. A vehicle registered to Tweedie was located at the home, and investigators determined that Tweedie, Hill and the woman were in the house.
Following deployment of the SWAT officers, negotiators established contact with Hill, who initially was uncooperative and denied the woman's presence at the house, Duke said.
Both men eventually came out of the house, peacefully ending the standoff, he said.
The residence then was searched and a loaded firearm was found inside.
Tweedie was arrested on an existing warrant for a suspected probation violation as a felon in possession of ammunition, and on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a loaded firearm and ammunition, relating to the weapon found in the house, Duke said.
Hill was arrested on suspicion of aiding, harboring and concealing a felon to avoid arrest.
Additional charges could be filed as the investigation continues, Duke said.
