Teenagers arrested on drug, alcohol charges at Santa Rosa motel

Santa Rosa police arrested five teenagers Sunday morning on alcohol and drug charges after learning they were apparently partying in a Santa Rosa Avenue motel room.

Police also discovered what they described as a replica semi-automatic handgun in the trash can of the room after the teens had been taken into custody.

Police received a report about 6 a.m. of several minors alone in a room at the Economy Inn. The report said the minors were drinking alcohol, smoking marijuana and in possession of guns.

Police knocked on the door of the room and several of the occupants began trying to escape through a rear bathroom window, police Sgt. Lisa Banayat said.

Officers found several opened and unopened bottles of alcohol in the room, she said, and a fake pistol in a trash can.

“There were no markings on the gun that distinguished it from an actual firearm,” Banayat said in an announcement about the arrests.

Five teenagers were arrested, four boys and one girl. All were under the influence of alcohol, Banayat said. One boy, a 14-year-old from Windsor, had a bag of marijuana.

They included two 15-year old Santa Rosa boys, a 14-year-old Santa Rosa girl, and a 17-year-old Santa Rosa boy – all on suspicion of being minors in possession of alcohol.

The Windsor boy was arrested on suspicion of being a minor in possession of alcohol and possession of marijuana.

Two of the teens were on probation for prior offenses. They were all arrested and later released to their parents later Sunday.

The room was rented by an adult who was not there, Banayat said.
