Internet and telephone services have been restored to businesses at Santa Rosa’s Airport business park after transmission cables were accidentally severed Wednesday.
Businesses were without service since about 2 p.m. on Wednesday, when workers with local internet provider Sonic hit two of AT&T’s copper cables while installing new fiber cable in the area of Airport and Skylane boulevards.
AT&T worked around the clock to repair the complex cables, spokesman Alex Carey said. He added that repairs were wrapped up as of 1:15 p.m. Friday.
“We’re pretty well back to functioning again,” said Diane Cupples, vice president of marketing at Schurter Inc., which is located on Aviation Boulevard. Schurter is part of a Swiss company and responsible for distributing electronic components in North America. Without Internet service, the company has been unable to send or receive emails from customers.
She said part of her company’s frustration was hearing very little from AT&T about what had happened and when it would be fixed.
Her company saw its service begin to be restored Thursday evening, more than 24 hours after the outage began. It was fully restored Friday morning, she said.
