A Clearlake Oaks woman was arrested Monday on forgery charges after police say she was unable to explain why the City of Clearlake had written her a check for nearly $10,000.
Shannon Leann Flores, 32, was booked on suspicion of forgery, burglary, possession of stolen property and drug charges after police were called to West America Bank in Kelseyville.
Bank staff became suspicious when Flores asked them to cash a check for $9,762. They called the City of Clearlake and learned that the check had been written to a local business for $175, but the business had never received it because its mail had been stolen, Clearlake police said.
Flores, who is on probation for theft, initially told the investigating officer that the money was for property she sold to the city for a road project. She then said she didn't know why the check had been sent to her, Clearlake police said.
Officers later searcher Flores' car and found various checks, credit cards, identification cards and financial information for several different people. Jail staff also discovered her in possession of a glass pipe with 0.4 grams of methamphetamine, police said.
