The Napa couple charged with murder and felony assault in the death of 3-year-old Kayleigh Slusher pleaded not guilty Tuesday morning.
Kayleigh's mother, Sara Kreuger, 23, and her boyfriend, Ryan Scott Warner, 26, appeared in court with their attorneys to enter the pleas, Napa County District Attorney Gary Lieberstein said.
Police said they found the body of the child, who would have been 4 in May, in a bed at her mother's Napa apartment on Feb. 1. She had suffered blunt force trauma and appeared to have been sexually assaulted, police said at the time.
The Napa County Coroner's Office has determined that the child died of multiple blunt impact injuries to the head, torso and extremities stemming from child abuse and neglect, Lieberstein said.
The date of Kreuger and Warner's preliminary hearings will be set during a court date scheduled for April 2. Kreuger and Warner remain in custody with no bail.
