Upcoming hiring event for military vets, job seekers

Nearly 60 companies will accept resumes from military veterans and others seeking work at a jobs fair next week in Santa Rosa.

The Sonoma County Veterans Job Fair last year drew 1,100 job seekers, including about 250 vets.

This year's gathering will be held Thursday, April 24 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Santa Rosa Veterans Building, 1351 Maple Ave. Participants are asked to preregister online at sonomacountyveteransjobfair.com.

In addition, Sonoma County Job Link on Wednesday April 23 will host a workshop entitled "How to Get Noticed at a Hiring Event." The workshop, where participants will receive help with resumes, will be 9-11 a.m. at the Job Link office, 2227 Capricorn Way in Santa Rosa.

Claudio Calvo, veterans employment representative in Santa Rosa for the state Employment Development Department, said the workshop can help job seekers make the most of employment fairs.

"It can be overwhelming," Calvo said. "You don't know where to go first."
