The Folsom Street exit ramp from westbound Interstate 80 into San Francisco will be closed through mid-March starting Tuesday morning as work begins to reposition the offramp, impacting Bay Bridge commuters who use the exit to access the Financial District.

The portion of the offramp that goes to Fremont Street, however, will remain open.

The $3.5 million project is meant to make the area more pedestrian-friendly as well as create more room for development at the intersection of Folsom and Fremont streets, according to a news release from the San Francisco County Transportation Authority.

Drivers wanting to access Folsom Street will have two detour options: Exit at Harrison Street and connect with Folsom at Fremont Street or exit at Fremont Street, then turn left at Fremont, Howard and First streets to reach Folsom.
