A Redwood Credit Union subsidiary has acquired an in-house insurance agency to expand its operations and better serve its members.

RCU Insurance Services has bought Sonoma-based SST Insurance Brokers and the company will transition into the broker for RCU, which offers auto, home, commercial insurance products to its members through a network of outside brokers.

Santa Rosa-based Redwood Credit Union said the purchase will allow local in-person consultations and other added benefits to its insurance offerings for members, including businesses.

SST employees, including owner Douglas Mahon, have become employees of RCU Insurance Services. The brokerage will continue to operate as SST during the transition, and SST will continue to service the policies of its current policy holders for the foreseeable future, the company said in a statement.

Policies under SST and RCU Insurance Services will eventually merge under the new structure, and the similarity of carriers between the two operations is expected to have minimal impact on policy holders. All policies are expected to transition to the new structure over the course of the next year, the credit union said.
