Ousted Men's Wearhouse founder George Zimmer returns with tailor service

NEW YORK — Men's Wearhouse founder George Zimmer, who was ousted from the suit retailer two years ago, still wants you to "like the way you look."

But this time, you don't have to walk into a store to do so.

Zimmer launched zTailors this week, a company that sends clothing tailors to homes or offices. Booking a tailor who can hem skirts or taper baggy shirts, is done through the zTailors website or with a phone call. The company says it has hundreds of tailors in 15 states and plans to be nationwide by the end of the summer.

"Anyone can now have access to a personal tailor at their convenience," said Zimmer, in a statement, "a service previously available only to the wealthy."

Zimmer was abruptly fired as executive chairman of Men's Wearhouse Inc. in 2013, about 40 years after founding the company. Customers knew him Zimmer as the face of Men's Wearhouse, appearing in many of its TV commercials saying the slogan, "You're going to like the way you look. I guarantee it."

At zTailors, Zimmer is serving as chairman. Scott Silverstein, a former president at a Men's Wearhouse subsidiary, will run the day-to-day operations as CEO.

Based in Oakland, California, zTailors charges $20 to adjust shirt sleeves, $30 to adjust jacket sleeves and $25 to taper the sides of a dress, according to its website.
