Rohnert Park solar company Soligent sells unit

Rohnert Park’s Soligent, the nation’s largest distributor of solar equipment and services, on Tuesday announced plans to sell its Stellar Energy business, which builds, finances and operates commercial solar systems.

Stellar Energy’s buyer is REC Solar, which has corporate offices in San Luis Obispo and Honolulu. Duke Energy, the nation’s largest electric utility, in February acquired a majority interest in that company.

The companies didn’t disclose terms of the deal, which was concluded through an asset purchase agreement. Soligent declined to disclose the number of workers at Rohnert Park-based Stelllar Energy, but said “the bulk of the Stellar team” would become part of REC Solar.

The sale will add 28 megawatts of operation and maintenance contracts to REC Solar, bringing the total of such contracts to more than 200 megawatts. As well, Stellar has more than 60 megawatts of projects installed or under construction.

Soligent supplies more than 5,000 solar installers with equipment, financing, and software.

“This sale gives Soligent additional resources to achieve its goal of transforming the distribution space through best-in-class software, financing, and equipment for its solar partners,” Soligent CEO Jonathan Doochin said in a statement.
