Toernqvist named digital director at Sonoma Media Investments

Annika Toernqvist has joined Sonoma Media Investments as digital director for the company’s media properties.

Toernqvist worked for the San Francisco Chronicle for the past seven years, most recently as executive producer and general manager of SFGate.com. She was responsible for content and traffic at The Gate, the fifth-largest newspaper website in the country with 170 million page views monthly.

Before joining the Chronicle, she worked as a producer and manager at Microsoft, directing its online support operation in Northern Europe, and held several positions at a Swedish online community, public relations firm and web portal.

Toernqvist will be responsible for the overall management of all Sonoma Media Investments digital products, including web development and social media campaigns with a focus on driving online traffic.

“She is one of the top digital specialists in her field with a strong understanding of digital audience development and growth from traditional and nontraditional sources,” Sonoma Media Investments CEO Steve Falk said in a statement.

Sonoma Media Investments owns The Press Democrat, Petaluma Argus-Courier, The Sonoma Index-Tribune, North Bay Business Journal and Sonoma magazine.
