Nordstrom confirms plans for Rack store in Santa Rosa

Bargain hunters, rejoice! Seattle-based Nordstrom said Wednesday it is 'thrilled' to be opening one of its popular Rack locations at Coddingtown.|

Seattle-based Nordstrom confirmed Wednesday what Santa Rosa officials revealed seven weeks ago: The upscale retailer is bringing a Nordstrom Rack to Coddingtown Mall.

The store is slated to open in a new 31,000-square-foot space in the fall of 2016 and offer apparel, accessories and shoes at a 30 to 70 percent discount.

News of the development came to light at a city design review meeting in early July, at which time Nordstrom officials couldn’t be reached for comment.

“We’ve been fortunate to serve customers in Northern California for quite a while now and we’re thrilled to add a store at Coddingtown Mall, a location we’ve been eager to be a part of,” Nordstrom Rack President Geevy Thomas said in a statement Wednesday.

“Bringing the Nordstrom name to Coddingtown Mall has been a lifetime goal for us,” Codding Enterprise COO Lisa Codding said in a statement. “We are very excited Nordstrom Rack will be joining our shopping center and that Codding Construction will soon begin construction on the new store to further complement the redevelopment of Coddingtown Mall.”

The new store will be the 14th Rack in Northern California. Nordstrom has 304 stores in 38 states, including 118 full-line stores and 178 Rack outlets.

Nordstrom spokeswoman Jessica Canfield explained the company’s decision to place a Rack outlet in Santa Rosa rather than a full-line store.

“Coddingtown Mall is a great fit for Nordstrom Rack given the competitive retail offering and the space available,” she said in an email.

“Right now,” she added, “we don’t see a location that makes sense for a full-line store, but we’re always open to considering new opportunities that make sense for us.”
