Vintage Wine Estates of Santa Rosa has bought the Swanson Vineyards in Napa, its second purchase this summer of a North Coast winery in an increasingly consolidated marketplace.

The purchase includes the Swanson Vineyards winery, the Manley Lane tasting room, and its Napa Valley wine inventory. W. Clarke Swanson will retain the vineyards on the 100-acre Oakville property but will allow Vintage Wine Estates to source grapes from the land, which features cabernet sauvignon and merlot varietals.

Swanson, an heir to the Swanson family of frozen food fame, bought the property in 1985, which is located in Rutherford appellation. He will serve as consultant to the winery.

The deal is the second transaction this summer for Vintage after purchasing the B.R. Cohn Winery in Sonoma Valley, after owner Bruce Cohn was forced to sell it after $25 million in debt.
