The first commercial airliner from the Phoenix metro area is expected to touch down this afternoon at the Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport.

Allegiant Air Flight 120 is slated to arrive here about 4:06 p.m., marking the debut of a new route that will operate each Thursday and Sunday. At 4:46 p.m., the same plane is scheduled to begin a return flight to the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, in Mesa, Ariz.

The flight comes a week after Allegiant began air service between the county and Las Vegas, also on Thursdays and Sundays.

Allegiant became the second commercial airline now operating in the county. Alaska Airlines started service here in 2007 and provides nonstop flights from Santa Rosa to San Diego, Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland and since March the John Wayne Airport in Orange County.

Officials say the new flights will boost the county’s $1.8 billion tourism industry.
