Far Niente Wine Estates sale finalized

A San Francisco private equity firm said Thursday that it has completed its purchase of Far Niente Wine Estates in Oakville, a producer of premium Napa Valley chardonnay and cabernet sauvignon.

GI Partners bought the winery last month under a deal allowing winery owners Beth Nickel, Erik Nickel, Dirk Hampson and Larry Maguire to remain as shareholders.

The investment includes the Far Niente winery and its sister wineries Dolce, Nickel & Nickel, EnRoute and Bella Union. Far Niente also has vineyards in Napa and Sonoma counties. GI Partners bought Duckhorn Vineyards in 2007.
