More than 50 workers at the Hyatt Vineyard Creek hotel in Santa Rosa have voted to be represented by the union Unite-HERE Local 2850.

A neutral arbitrator verified that about 70 percent of the eligible housekeepers, servers, cooks, dishwashers and other non-management hotel employees voted last week to be represented by the local, union spokesman Ty Hudson said.

The Hyatt becomes the second unionized hotel in Sonoma County as Local 2850 also represents about 80 workers at the Sheraton in Petaluma. The union is gearing up to organize workers at the hotel at the Graton Resort & Casino in Rohnert Park. The Federated Indians of the Graton Rancheria have struck a deal with the union that it would not interfere in any organizing campaign.

Another Unite-HERE unit, Local 49, represents about 600 Graton casino workers.
