Friedman's Home Improvement welcomed more than 60 volunteers from local Boy Scout troops on Monday, who came together to build and distribute sifters to those affected by the North Bay wildfires.

The goal is to build 500 sifters, which will be given away free at the store's Santa Rosa location. Material for the sifters was donated by Friedman's and its vendors, including Humboldt Redwood Company, SouthCoast Lumber, Conrad Forrest Products, BMD Building Materials, Kelleher Lumber and Hillman Fasteners.

Friedman's reminds customers to check with their local government agency on how to properly handle and dispose of debris and ash from residential and other structural fires.
