The Other Guys bulks up staffing
Sonoma-based The Other Guys has announced several new personnel moves as the family-owned winery looks to grow its market share.
Andres Faustinelli has been named as director of procurement, leading sourcing strategy and relationship development for the winery. Faustinelli most recently worked as a category manager in the whiskey and spirits sector for Diageo North America.
The other moves include Ryan Wycoff as marketing manager; Madelon Christiaanse as marketing coordinator; Chris Potter as the Northeast market manager; Rich Moreno as Northern California district manager; and Lydia Ogden as accounting administrator.
La Crema launches 'virtual vintner'
La Crema Winery has launched a “virtual vintner” program that allows consumers to help create a new wine through an interactive program on its website. The program began on Aug. 11 and will take participants through the various steps of winemaking, crowdsourcing the decisions as participants head to the next step.
The steps include varietal and appellation selection; vineyard decision; fermentation style; barrel type and time; the creation of tasting notes; and the design of the label and its name, which will be finalized by February.
Participants will be able to purchase the wine when it’s released in late fall 2015.
Women's wine conference in March
A symposium focusing on women in the wine industry will be held March 13 to 15 at The Meritage Resort and Spa in Napa. The event is sponsored by the The Women of the Vine of Piermont, N.Y.
The event will feature seminars and panel discussions including how to balance life and work; how to succeed in a male-dominated profession; and tactics to improve communications and leaderships skills.According to the American Association of Wine Economists, only 10 percent of winemakers in California are women.
