Police seek clues in Santa Rosa shooting death

An autopsy Monday of a young Santa Rosa man killed in a mysterious shooting at a Santa Rosa home showed he died from one gunshot wound to his head, said Santa Rosa police.

But whether Eduardo Caballero, 19, was the victim of homicide or shot himself, either accidentally or as a suicide, remained unclear Monday, said detective Sgt. Dave Linscomb.

"We just don't know at this point," said Linscomb.

The man was found Thursday night on the floor of a living room of a Marble Street home in southwest Santa Rosa. No gun was found in the room.

While he may have been shot by someone else, he also may have shot himself and someone could have taken the gun, said the sergeant.

Linscomb declined to release further details about the autopsy.

Caballero didn't live at the home, and what he was doing there also remained under investigation. There were others at the home, and Linscomb said detectives believe there are people in the community who know what happened.

He asked anyone with information to contact detectives at 543-3590.
