The city of Sebastopol is seeking citizens to serve on its General Plan Advisory Committee.

Committee members will be asked to propose updates to a 20-year-old plan adopted in 1994, city officials said.

The deadline to apply is 4 p.m. Tuesday. The four-page application is available at City Hall or online at http://ci.sebastopol.ca.us.

The citizen panel, expected to have 15 or more members, will advise the Planning Commission and City Council and will address a variety of issues, from traffic circulation to housing density, urban design and economic development.

About 18 people already have applied, but officials said they want to give a chance to anyone who is interested.

City officials are looking for active, engaged residents who are familiar with the community, its make-up and general layout, though no prior civic involvement is required.

Members will be appointed by the City Council and can expect to be begin serving this spring, likely once a month for about two years, though subcommittees may require one or two additional meetings each month.
