Lakeport police search for culprit taking photos in store dressing room

Lakeport police are hoping images from a store surveillance camera may help them track down a man suspected of using a cellphone to photograph a 15-year-old girl in a Kmart dressing room last weekend.

The girl was in a a changing room Sunday afternoon when she saw someone holding the phone camera over the top the door, police said. She also saw someone's boots under the door, they said.

Surveillance footage obtained from store security picked up the man on tape, police said. His movement in the store indicated his focal point the whole time was the dressing rooms, they said.

It's not clear when the girl reported the incident, but police late Thursday released a dark image from the surveillance camera and a description of the suspect, said to be a light-skinned white or Latino man believed to have a dark-colored beard. He was said to be 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-#8212;9 and weighed up to 200 pounds.

The man was wearing a black beanie, perhaps with a short bill, denim carpenters' pants, and a black-hooded jacket with gray lining in the hood and white or gray lettering across the chest.

Police also said he appears to walk with slightly turned out toes.

Anyone who thinks they may be able to help identify the man is asked to call Lakeport police at 263-5491.
