Fort Bragg driver charged with fleeing hit-and-run scene

A 20-year-old Fort Bragg driver who police said slammed his pickup into another truck and fled was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run and drunken driving causing injury.

Fort Bragg Police arrested Robert Douglas Colberg following the Friday night crash at the intersection of Redwood Avenue and North Franklin Street.

Police said Colberg was identified as the man driving a northbound Ford F-150 at about 50 to 60 miles per hour that crashed into the passenger side bed area of an eastbound 2004 Nissan Frontier with four males inside.

Police said multiple witnesses at the scene recognized Colberg as the man driving the Ford, which drove away. Assisted by the Highway Patrol, police officers found Colberg's damaged Ford near his residence on North Whipple Street, where they said they also found him hiding in a shed/bedroom to the rear of the property.

He was booked into the Mendocino County Adult Detention Facility in Ukiah and is awaiting arraignment.
