New officers elected by Sonoma Valley Vintners - Growers Alliance

The Sonoma Valley Vintners - Growers Alliance, a trade group representing more than 100 wineries and 140 grape growers, elected Squire Fridell of GlenLyon Vineyards and Winery as its board president for 2014.

"I am excited to be the president of the SVVGA board," Fridell said in a statement.

Other board officers include Danny Fay of Envolve Winery as vice president; Cathleen Gorham of Rabobank, N.A. as treasurer; and Becky Jenkins of Madrone Vineyard Management as secretary. New 2014 board directors are Gary Buffo of Pure Luxury Transportation, Richard Idell of Idell Family Vineyards, Jon Parker of Highway 12 Vineyards and Winery, Alan Ross of Ross Vineyard, and Dan Zepponi of Valley of the Moon Winery.

Cork group launches marketing campaign

100% Cork, a movement to educate wine drinkers and winemakers about the social, technical and environmental benefits of natural cork, is launching a campaign to show wineries how they can increase revenues and market share by sealing bottles with natural cork.

The campaign will offer marketing tools to wineries that prefer cork to promote their brands. The tools include access to the campaign's social media sites, including the 100% Cork Facebook page with more than 60,000 followers, marketing collaterals and news media placements.

"Despite consumer preference for natural cork, most wineries that use cork rarely inform customers of their choice of closure," said Carlos de Jesus, global campaign director for the Portuguese Cork Association. "Our goal is to partner with wineries that use cork to help them promote this powerful but largely unrealized marketing advantage."
