A wayward cow found its way into rush hour traffic on Highway 101 in Rohnert Park on Monday afternoon, running more than a mile on the freeway until it turned off onto Todd Road in south Santa Rosa, stopping traffic along the way, the CHP said.

Several motorists called to report the black bovine running on the southbound side of the highway, beginning around 4:43 p.m. near Golf Course Drive, according to the CHP.

Traffic in all three southbound lanes slowed and stopped for the cow, the CHP said. The animal apparently found an exit from the freeway at Todd Road.

Animal Control personnel contained the cow about 5:45 p.m. near a Rincon Valley fire station on Todd Road west of Moorland Avenue, the CHP said.
