A man who was being pulled over for an apparent speeding violation Saturday evening on Bodega Highway hopped out of his pickup and disappeared into the woods rather than wait for a CHP officer to approach, setting off a 45-minute search by law enforcement on foot and in the air, the CHP said.
A Highway Patrol officer attempted to stop the vehicle, which was headed east near Joy Road, shortly before 6 p.m. The driver pulled to the shoulder, but then jumped out, vaulted a fence and ran, Sgt. Erik Egide said. Officers from the CHP and Sonoma County Sheriff's Office, joined by a helicopter, were unable to locate him.
The driver did, however, leave a female passenger sitting in the vehicle. As a result, "We have some good leads on who he is," Egide said.
There was no evidence in the vehicle to suggest why the man ran. The woman was not arrested, he said.
