A Santa Rosa man was badly injured in a Sunday afternoon vehicle crash.

Joel Brightdale, 67, had to be extricated from his Chevrolet Trailblazer after he crashed it into a tree on Guerneville Road, the CHP said.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, which took place at about 2:21 p.m., CHP Officer Marcus Hawkins said.

Brightdale was headed east on Guerneville Road, and was near Forestview Drive when, for unknown reasons, the Trailblazer drifted off the road and into a tree, Hawkins said. He suffered major injuries and was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, Hawkins said.

The crash is still under investigation. Neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected to be a factor in the crash, Hawkins said.

Guerneville Road was restricted to one way traffic for about 45 minutes.
