Lakeport police said they have arrested a man who had been carrying a loaded, sawed-off shotgun.
Police said they used a Taser gun Thursday afternoon to subdue Oscar Javier Arevalo, 22, of Lakeport.
An officer approached Arevalo following a report of a suspicious man with a backpack. When Arevalo spotted the officer, he put the backpack behind a garbage can, police said.
When the officer attempted to detain Arevalo, he resisted, then fled, according to the police account. Arevalo continued to resist when the officer caught up with him. The officer fired his Taser, striking the man, who continued to resist, police said.
A loaded .410 shotgun, a methamphetamine smoking pipe and what appeared to be a mask made from a T-shirt were found inside the backpack, authorities said.
Arevalo was arrested on suspicion of possessing a sawed-off shotgun, being a suspected gang member carrying a loaded firearm in public, carrying a concealed weapon in public, resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance smoking pipe, police said.
He was taken to Sutter Lakeside Hospital for a medical check, then booked into the Lake County Jail, police said.
