A Santa Rosa warehouse used by a garage door manufacturer caught fire Saturday morning, causing major damage to company inventory, according to the Santa Rosa Fire Department.

The cause of the fire at the Overhead Door Co. on Piner Road appears to be accidental, the fire department said. It may have started after rags used to oil wooden door panels were discarded in a garbage can and spontaneously ignited. Fire officials are investigating the cause of the fire.

Firefighters responded to a report of smoke coming from the building around 4:40 a.m. Firefighters forced entry into the business and found the fire burning in the rear storage area of the structure. The fire was controlled in approximately 15 minutes, the Fire Department said.

The fire burned up shelving, garage doors and door components. It caused major smoke damage to six vehicles and other business inventory housed inside the warehouse. The fire and smoke caused about $50,000 worth of damage, fire officials said. No one was injured during the incident.
