Old Redwood Highway will be closed Sunday night at Highway 101 in Petaluma as crews work on a new overpass. The overpass and all ramps at the interchange will be closed from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. Monday, Caltrans said.
On Monday night, Caltrans will switch traffic to the new bridge at Old Redwood Highway and close the old bridge. During this work, Old Redwood Highway and all ramps at the interchange will be closed from 10 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday.
Once the new bridge is open, one onramp on each side of the overpass will be closed for six months, Caltrans said. The ramp closures are necessary to build new onramps that will connect to the realigned roadway.
Though drivers will still be able to merge onto the freeway via the remaining offramps, the closures are expected to cause travel delays and additional time should be allowed when traveling through the area, Caltrans said.
Demolition of the old bridge will require full freeway closures in March.
