Sonoma State student wins Miss Sonoma County

Students from Sonoma State University and Maria Carrillo High School in Santa Rosa were crowned with Sonoma County pageantry honors Saturday night.

Skylaer Palacios, 19, a liberal studies major from Sonoma State was named 2014's Miss Sonoma County at a ceremony at Spreckels Performing Arts Center in Rohnert Park.

Deisy Vargas, 20, was first runner-up.

Palacios performed a song and dance for the talent competition of the 68th iteration of the annual event.

Palacios was awarded a $1,200 scholarship and will represent Sonoma County at the state competition in Fresno in June.

Maria Carrillo High School freshman Catherine Liang, 14, was named the 2014 Miss Sonoma County's Outstanding Teen. She will receive a $500 scholarship.

Liang participates in ballet and swimming and hopes to become a civil rights lawywer. She played classical piano for the competition's talent portion.

Liang will compete for California's Outstanding Teen in Fresno in June.
