A Pelaluma Police officer suffered minor injuries Tuesday when he was kicked by a suspect who police said was resisting arrest.
Police said officers responding to a report of a man trying to open the doors of parked cars spotted Anthony Westrope, 29, of Santa Rosa on the 300 block of Ely Boulevard South.
Acting Sgt. Ron Klein said in a statement that Westrope refused to identify himself or follow officers' directions. Westrope became combatative and fought with officers, kicking and grabbing as they attempted to restrain him, Klein said.
One officer's wrist was injured in the scuffle, Klein said. The officer was treated and released from Petaluma Valley Hospital.
Westrope also was treated for what police said were minor injuries and booked into Sonoma County jail on suspicion of battery, obstructing a peace officer and possession of burglary tools. Police said that during a search of the suspect, they discovered a spring-loaded, metal-tipped punch, which they said is commonly used to break windows on automobiles.
